October 22, 2009. Sherry planned some neat things for Lauren to experience and this Aaron & Jessica's Buggy Ride was great.
Upon arrival, we saw the buggy stand and our buggy was pulling up to let off the previous tour. There are two tours, a short tour and a long tour. We opted for the long tour, which included a guided tour of a dairy farm.
Lauren sat up front with the Amish driver and he explained all kinds of information about the Amish and Mennonites and their farms. The driver's horse was named Sally and he could issue verbal orders to Sally, such as "back up" and Sally would comply.
Along the way we passed several horse teams pulling farm equipment. Most of the drivers were young men from 13 to 19 years old.
Our route took all back roads. We passed well appointed farms and saw many buggies and almost no cars.
When we arrived at the dairy farm, the farm dog met us at the entrance. He was used to strangers because he didn't bark, he just wagged his tail.
Our guide took us around the dairy farm and explained the milking process in an Amish environment with no electricity. Oddly enough, they had a giant milk storage vat that was cooled by a motor-generator located in an adjacent building.
On this buggy ride, the driver posed for photos.
No tour is complete without a gift shop visit, so we did.
Lauren had a most enjoyable experience on her first buggy ride.
