June 21, 2009 Strasburg, PA. Scott suggested we take Liam to the railroad special event called: "A Day Out with Thomas". For our 12:45 PM ride, Paddy and I arrived early and were very glad we did because every parking space was filled at the Strasburg RR and the same for the parking lot across the street at the Pennsylvania Train Museum. We followed signs for parking and four miles later we were at a school which had a very large parking lot and shuttle busses. The bus routine actually worked out pretty well, running every 10 to 15 minutes.
Paddy and I arrived a few minutes before Scott, Laura and Liam, so we took a couple of introductory photos. Yes, that engine is the famous "Thomas the Tank Engine".
In a short time, everybody had arrived. It was a good thing Scott reserved the tickets because the whole day was sold out. After cueing up outside in the designated area, we boarded the train and it took off promptly. We all had a great time aboard the train, especially Liam.
After our train ride we checked out a special-event kids tent and Liam was right at home tapping on a musical xylophone and pounding on drums.
We took a few more photos and caught the Thomas train leaving the station for the next ride.
Scott suggested we eat at the Iron Horse Inn in Downtown Strasburg and the food was excellent. Upon leaving, we took our famous "mirror shot".
We capped off the day with a visit to the "Choo Choo Barn". It was a large room filled with miniature towns in very intricate detail and many operating trains. Periodically the room darkens for a night view.
Outside was the Choo Choo Barn icon, especially for picture taking.
It was a wonderful Father's Day, thanks Scott, Laura, Paddy and of course Liam.
