MATIAS VISIT

August 27, 2008.    Matias Temperley is the son of Paddy's cousin who is visiting us from Texas.  We wanted to treat our Army Veteran (Iraq tour) properly so we took him to lunch at the Avenue Restaurant at Pier Village by the Atlantic Ocean in Long Branch, NJ.

Matias said the New Jersey scenery was very nice, especially the waitresses.

The food at the Avenue was excellent, including the ummm good deserts.

When at the beach, with a camera, it's very logical to take photos, so we did.

With food service available right on the beach in 'Le Club', some of the ladies were truly spoiled.  A splendid example of "the good life".

On the way home, we stopped at the highest natural point along the Atlantic Coastal Plain: Mt Mitchell Scenic Overlook in Atlantic Highlands at 266 feet elevation.  From here we had a straight on view of Sandy Hook and Manhattan, NY.  It was here on Sept 11, 2001 that many locals watched in horror and disbelief as the World Trade Center burned and collapsed.  In tribute, the  Monmouth County Parks System built a 9/11 memorial, that contained a melted, twisted girder from the World Trade Center and showed the names and ages of those from Monmouth County who perished in the disaster.

Then back home to Middletown.               Next day it was pool and spa.
