LIAM's FIRST TRAIN RIDE
ON THE STRASBURG RR

June 7, 2008.  On Liam's seventh month birthday, we took him to the Strasburg Railroad for his first train ride.

A few photos were taken at home in Camp Hill, PA, the evening before the trip to the Lancaster County area.

It's train day and steam was running today !!

We chose the open car and with the temperature around 94 degrees, it was rather nice in the shade of the car and the nice breeze accompanying  the movement of the train.  Liam likes it when mom takes his photo with the cell phone.

The train stops at the Groffs grove picnic area for those who packed a lunch.  We will plan a picnic on a future trip when the temperature is in the 70's or 80's.  Continuing on to Paradise, PA,  the engine turns around and we prepare to head back to Strasburg.

There were a few additions to the railroad since we last visited Strasburg.  First was the 1920's Cagney Steam train, which is  a miniature, coal burning steam train that pulls several cars of passengers.  The second was a 1930's Cranky Car that kids operate by turning the drive crank.

Directly across the street from the Strasburg railroad is the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum.  It's a wonderful place to visit.  The museum has a large outdoor display and a very large indoor display.  Liam's carriage ride was so comfortable, he fell asleep.

The indoor museum was very nicely air conditioned, the best place to be when the outside temperature is 94.

After the railroad visits, we drove to York, PA for dinner and saw some of the hot rods that were there for a national hot rod event

It sure was a fun visit.

Scott also took some photos with the panasonic camera so I added them to this webpage.
